A Roman shade is fabric, folded — and it brings a warmth and tailored quality that a flat shade cannot. It belongs in living rooms, dining rooms, layered bedrooms, and kitchens where the window is a design moment. The face fabric sets the look; the lining controls the light. We make both decisions together so the shade looks the way you want and performs the way you need.
Fold styles and where they fit
Flat folds read clean and tailored. Relaxed folds add a soft smile at the bottom for a more casual room. Hobbled folds keep cascading fabric even when raised, for a richer, more traditional look. The right choice depends on the room and the fabric weight — a medium-weight woven stacks cleanly, while too-light fabric bunches and too-stiff fabric will not fold softly.
Light control is the lining, not the look
Clients often confuse the face fabric with the light it lets in. A natural linen can be completely room-darkening with the right blackout liner behind it — you would never know from looking. In a Manhattan bedroom most clients go blackout; in a living room facing a garden, light-filtering is usually enough. We choose the face and the liner as one decision.
We have been in apartments ten years after installation. The linen Romans look as good as day one.
